  Neurowise Academy

random

In 2022 India had a population of 1.2 billion people. Current estimates suggest that as much as 10% of students may have a specific learning difficulty and go undiagnosed. This represents a generational loss of potential, both for children hoping to follow their dreams, and for the Indian economy.

Our mission at Neurowise Academy, working together with CReSTeD UK, is to assist India by enabling teachers to identify these children and young adults, putting interventions in place to ensure they achieve their full potential, and by helping schools become centres of excellence right across India.

We started our mission in January 2023, read about our story

Understanding more about neurodiversity: Neurodiversity describes the unique and diverse ways that peoples brains work and learn. It encompasses students with multiple traits of any of the following specific learning difficulties: dyslexia, dyspraxia, discalculia, ADHD for example. This requires special screening, diagnostic testing, and tailored intervention. As part of our work we have designed a special Program of Support specifically to work in schools and universities across India.

Below are some of our key projects:

random

Atria University, Bangalore In January 2023 we announced our partnership with Atria University. Here we have proudly set up our Centre of Excellence (CoE), where we successfully delivered a number of workshops, as well as provide a base from where we are able to reach out to other educational institutes across India, to enable them to encourage and support their students with neurodiverse profiles. It is also intended that training sessions, seminars and well as conferences will be held at this location, and all staff associated with this Program of Support will be based here at the Atria University.

I CAN schools, Mysore In January 2023 we were delighted to be able to announce our proof of concept at the ICAN primary and secondary schools based in Mysore. Here we have been able to successfully rollout our Program of Support demonstrating the feasibility of putting in place appropriate training sessions for teachers to be able to cover screening across key year groups, further detailed assessments and also offer intervention programs for those students identified with specific learning differences. It is also our intention to then add these schools onto our recommended list of accredited schools, that is those that fulfil our criteria to be best placed to support those students who learn differently.

If you need further information on any of these projects please email us.

March 2023: Our article has finally been published in "Dyslexia Review", Spring 2023 edition, where Amita describes setting up NeuroWise Academy (formerly iCRESTED), and establishing our proof of concepts on the ground at Mysore and Bangalore. It's been a long journey, with Covid delaying our plans, though we are encouraged with the progress we've made in the last 12 months.

January 2023: Amita and Ros (from CReSTeD UK) travel to India. See our Instagram page for images and updates on our journey and visits to Atria University and the ICAN schools.
